Funding options: various possibilities - Mathematics departments offer financial support and grants to follow Masters courses, mostly through the LabEx scheme: check the LabEx map for grants in your subject area! - The Ecoles Normales Supérieures (Paris, Lyon, Paris-Saclay, Rennes) and the Ecole polytechnique are elite competitive institutions that provide support for the most promising students. Take a look! Perhaps you would be eligible? PhD positions and funding French research laboratories are keen to host PhD students. Check the list! Your PhD advisor and his contacts in France can help you look for the most suitable grant for you, whether it is financed by a university, a LabEx, the ANR, ERC funding, or other providers (see for example the CIFRE-PhD initiative where the French Ministry for Higher Education and Research grants money to private companies to employ a PhD student). You can also come in France in the frame of a co-tutelle agreement between your own university and a French one.
